Suzi blogs about home life, work, and play

I saw one of the most inserting things today on my lunch break. I went out to lunch and enjoyed it outside on the patio. While I ate my lunch a man walked up near the patio, sat down and opened up a case. He pulled out a beautiful tuba and started playing some of the most peaceful music I have ever heard.

It was so interesting to see a street musician playing a tuba. It’s really not the instrument I would ever guess to see some one carry around to just start playing in a random location.  However, that made the experience all the more special because it was so unexpected.

I went grocery shopping tonight with my husband.  I sat in one of those motorized shopping carts and pointed to what I wanted him to get.  While we were there we purchased a bunch of food to donate to our local food drive.  There was really large bin out in front of the store when we walked in that reminded us to give back.  I know not everyone is as fortunate as we are.  We always try to give back and help our community out whenever we can.

We went to a yard sale last weekend and came across a bunch of rally nice kids toys and some old VHS tapes with kids shows and kids songs on them.

The toys were old wooden puzzles and a few My Little Pony dolls for only 50 cents each. The puzzles cost almost ten dollars brand new, so I grabbed up 6 of them like they were gold.

They only wanted 25 cents for each tape! I couldn’t believe it! I know everyone is using DVDs now, but the kids can play with an old VCR that we keep in the living room and I don’t have to worry about them scratching the expensive DVDs.

All together, it was a great day for bargains and we have some new things to do on the next rainy day.

Most of the time I like to wear shorts and sandals when I am working around the house or just running errands around town. Shorts are cool and don’t need ironing if you take them right out of the dryer before the wrinkles can set in.

This afternoon I wanted to meet up with a girlfriend who also has a daughter so they could have a play date. So we agreed to meet at a little family friendly restaurant that has a play area for kids. I decided to wear a long cotton skirt instead of shorts. Mommies like to dress up for play dates, too!

We haven’t lived here long enough, nor had the special occasion yet, to go out and have a nice romantic dinner, just the two of us. But my sweet hubby just came home tonight with the good news that he’s been offered the new job and we want to go out to celebrate tomorrow night. We don’t have a local yellowpages because we did not get a new home phone when we moved here. Each of us has our own cell phone and I just didn’t see any reason to pay for a home phone. The downside to that is you don’t get a local directory with all the ads for nice restaurants and other places you might want to go after you get settled into your new place.

So, I used the internet for a local search on fine dining and was pleasantly surprised at how many choices there are within a 30 minute drive of our new house. Of course, choosing the best place is the hard part.

At least we both agree that we want a nice American food restaurant with a good reputation for their steaks. Sometimes I like to try other nice places – especially Italian restaurants – but we haven’t enjoyed a nice steak dinner in a very long time. So I picked three local restaurants that looked good to me and gave the list to hubby – he can pick from those three and then we’ll call in the morning to make reservations for our special dinner tomorrow night.
